Important milestones
Many significant achievements have carried Finansbank from conception to its current position as an accomplished international bank.
Finansbank's has grown from its initial four branches to become a powerful regional and international bank.
- Founded on 27 October 1987, Finansbank opened with four branches: two in Istanbul and one in both Izmir and Ankara. Initially serving the corporate community, the bank entered the personal banking market in 1995.
- Finansbank then focused their efforts on expanding their network of banks. From 1995-2000, the company grew from its initial four branches to over 100 branches, including one in Bahrain. Throughout this time, Finansbank also developed a number of subsidiaries and services focused around commercial banking including Finans International Leasing and direct-deposit.
- In 1999, the bank's first credit cards were introduced, and, to support both this and other pre-existing services, Internet Banking and Call Center services were introduced in 2000. By 2003 the telephone banking and support center was recognized as "Best Call Center in Europe' at the European Call Center Awards.
- In October 2004, the bank received Turkey's first-ever capital-like loan. With aid from the $200 million USD loan, Finansbank continues to strengthen its capital and finance its customer-focused growth.
- In early 2006, The National Bank of Greece bought controlling interest of Finansbank. The purchase agreement guarantees that Finansbank's existing management team will take an active lead in the banks upcoming regional growth.
